Any bits of creativity that I possess and apply to my work originates in the “open-ended play” in my early life
My earliest memories of playtime are with a yellow squarish bucket filled with bright-colored ‘Duplo Blocks’. It is the kid-friendly, larger-sized cousin of Lego bricks. They are nimble for learning brains and easy for tiny hands. Thanks Lego!
I have spent countless hours at play, building houses, trees, buildings, cars and objects, with plastic bricks which seem like physical binary bits. Discrete in nature, yet convenient enough to derive complex, abstract representations of our world.
As an adult, it is not surprising that I continue to be drawn to silicon engineering and artificial intelligence by the same fundamental desire to pursue useful (artful) abstractions of the physical world, now with the goal to enable new useful applications for humanity.
